After 23+ years in telecommunications project and network management which included hiring, training, and evaluating frontline employees, I observed that much of their training time was spent helping the new employees develop and hone problem-solving and critical thinking skills. These were skills that they should have brought to the table, not acquired there.
"Why this...why here...why now?" The presentation that I start each year with in order to get the students in the right mindset in regard to the purpose of the year ahead.
Consequently, I am now seven years into a career in education using mathematics as a venue for driving home problem-solving skills.
